Account Preferences—Remote Access
You can configure your server to permit remote users, such as library customers
connecting from home, to access ProQuest through your server. These settings
ensure that your ProQuest links are protected from unauthorized use.
- First, make sure you are on the Edit IP Range page:
- From the Account Preferences, Authentication page, locate
the User ID for which you want to edit the IP address range.
- Click after the desired User ID.
- Click in
the jump list, or scroll down to the IP Ranges for Automatic Login
to ProQuest section.
- Click .
- You see the Edit IP Range page.
- Click to modify or to add
Remote Access to the ID.
You see the Edit Remote Access Settings page.
- Under Choose a Remote Access Method, select the desired
remote access method.
- Click .
The page you will see depends on the Remote Access Method you selected:

Barcode Validation / Pattern Matching
You see the Edit Remote Access Settings: Barcode Validation / Pattern Matching page. Continue as follows:
- Click to add a new barcode pattern.
You see the Barcode Settings page.
- Select the desired Checkdigit Method. To use multiple checkdigit methods, you can enter multiple barcode patterns.
- Select the exact length of your library card number (up to a maximum of
50 characters) from the Barcode Length drop-down box. The barcode length should include the checkdigit, if used.
- Select the length of your library card prefix (up to a maximum of 10 characters)
from the Prefix Length drop-down box.
This setting is used to skip the prefix in the checkdigit calculation for
DRA type barcodes
- In the Barcode Pattern area, enter the pattern to use when Matching barcodes.
The pattern can be from 5 to 50 characters in length, and should match the length entered in the Barcode Length drop-down box. If you want to match a specific alphanumeric character (A-Z, or 0-9) enter that character. For example, to match a prefix, such as 12345, enter 12345.
To match any alphanumeric character, enter the * character. Note: The prefix cannot contain the * character.
If you are using a checkdigit, enter the checkdigit using the * character.
- Click .
You will see the Edit Remote Access Settings: Barcode Validation / Pattern Matching page.
- Repeat steps 1 through 7 to add any additional barcode patterns.
- Click the Login Page Preferences (optional) tab. Confirm that you want to save your settings.
You see the Login Page Preferences page.
- Enter the , , and .
- Click .

Remote
User ID/Barcode Lookup - with password
You see the Edit Remote Access Settings: Remote User ID/Barcode Lookup-with
Password page. Continue as follows:
- In the Add a New Remote User ID section, enter the User
ID.
- Enter the user password
- Click .
Repeat for each user.
OR
You can upload a text file of User ID/Password pairs. This file must contain
one pair of ID/Password per line, with the User ID and Password separated by
a ~. IDs and Passwords can only contain alphanumeric
characters, no @, dots or any other non-alphanumeric character. The file cannot
contain
more
than
20,000 ID/PW pairs. For example:
JohnDoe~76titbp
JaneSmith~01sitsn
To
upload a text file of User ID/Password pairs:
- In the Upload Remote User Record File section, click and
navigate to the appropriate file.
- Select to add the new
user information to the end of the current information.
- Select to replace the
current information with the information you are uploading. All your current
information will be deleted.
- Click .

User ID/Barcode Lookup - no password
You see the Edit Remote Access Settings: Remote User ID/Barcode Lookup-with
Password page. Continue as follows:
- In the Add a New Remote User ID section, enter the User
ID.
- Enter the user password
- Click .
Repeat for each user.
OR
To upload a text file of User ID/Password pairs:
- In the Upload Remote User Record File section, click and
navigate to the appropriate file.
- Select to add the new
user information to the end of the current information.
- Select to replace the
current information with the information you are uploading. All your current
information will be deleted.
- Click .
This section lets you select how checkdigits are handled. Note: Both the Dynix and DRA checkdigit calculations are based on MOD10 checkdigit
calculations. Select the option you want to use:
- Prefix value is numeric and included in the checkdigit calculation (Dynix method)
- Prefix value is alphanumeric and not included in the checkdigit calculation (DRA method)
- None: Checkdigit calculation is not used
Using the Barcode Validation/Pattern Matching option, you can enter a matching pattern for barcodes. The pattern can be from 5 to 50 characters in length. If you want to match a specific alphanumeric character (A-Z, or 0-9) enter that character. For example, to match a prefix, such as 12345, enter 12345.

If you are using a checkdigit, enter the checkdigit using the * character.
Barcodes can be from 5 to 50 characters in length. This length includes the prefix.
The following options apply to the page that users will see when they login
to ProQuest:
- Description Text
This is the page header that will be displayed at the top of the login screen.
This will most likely be the name of your organization.
- Logo URL
Enter the URL of a logo stored on your local server that you want to display
on the login page, below the Description Text. The recommended dimensions
for this logo are 162 pixels wide by 99 pixels high.
- Login Screen Prompt
Enter the text you want displayed next to the entry box for barcodes or User
IDs. This will tell your users/patrons what to enter into the box (for
example, ).
- Password Prompt
Enter the text you want displayed next to the entry box for passwords. This
will tell your users/patrons what to enter into the box (for example, ).
The available remote access methods are:
- Barcode Validation/Pattern Matching
This remote access method validates the patron barcode on the basis of correct
length, prefix and checkdigit calculation.
- Remote User ID/Barcode Lookup - with password
This remote access method validates the patron by looking up the barcode.
Barcodes can be uploaded in batch or individually edited.
- Remote User ID/Barcode Lookup - no password
This remote access method validates the patron by looking up the barcode.
Barcodes can be uploaded in batch or individually edited.
